A family story
Michele, whose roots lie in San Marzano, Apulia, with a passion for the restaurant business and hospitality and professional training gained in Italy and abroad, met Anna, from Iseo, Brescia, in Switzerland, and thus began their life’s journey.
They came back to Italy and chose Calabria. They first settled in Praia, where they started managing a business. But Michele nurtured a dream: to create a hotel of his own, one that could reflect his personal vision of hospitality and dining. He was drawn to Scalea, sensing its tourism potential, and knowing he had by his side a strong and determined partner who shared his ambition, he set their entrepreneurial project in motion.
In 1971, the dream became a reality with the opening of the Talao.
In the meantime, Ada and Piero were born. Growing up in this atmosphere, it became natural for them to share their parents’ aspirations: engaging with guests, a passion for hospitality, and attention to detail.
Michele’s premature passing was a devastating blow, but Anna found the strength to react, pick up the pieces, and guide the young Anna and Piero toward continuity.
After a bit of a rough start, these two young people rose to the challenge, and year after year they’ve made the changes needed to modernize the hospitality experience, always striving to ensure their guests’ comfort and maintaining the highest standards of service and dining.
They're still running Talao today, determined to do everything they can to ensure it remains a “home away from home” for all their beloved guests
