The Talao Tower

Talao Tower, symbol of the town, rises above the coast. Built on a rocky promontory, it was a watchtower, built with the purpose of fighting off Saracen raids. Today it offers a breathtaking view of the Riviera dei Cedri and of the village of Scalea, a place definitely not to be missed. My wife and I stayed at the hotel for one night to break up a long train ride from Rome to Catania, Sicily. The staff were very good and helpful. Our room was the huge problem. It was about 110 square feet, just big enough for the bed, nightstands, and not much else. It did have a nice balcony facing the sea and a small bathroom. The hotel had a nice small bar for wine, grappa, etc. with a decent breakfast. WiFi was not very good with what appeared to be different networks depending on which floor one was on. At times, a given network worked on one floor but on no other. WiFi on the main ground level was a bit spotty as well. I was constantly having to reconnect. Again, except for the room, which was at the end of a corridor on the third floor, and the WiFi, it was ok for one night.
